Before exiting to the ocean, the Manning River carves out several large islands, including Oxley Island and Mitchells Island. The population of the urban centre was measured at 3,358 people in the 2006 census,[1] and that of the suburb proper which includes some surrounding rural area at 4096 people.[2] Old Bar has a thriving community market the fourth Sunday of each month, from 8.30 a.m. to noon.
