History
Originally named Bargo South, it was a farming area on the old Hume Highway. The new Main Southern Railway line was later established with a train station declared on the Southern Highlands rail line. This name was contested by a local businessman, who wished to establish a town called Bronzewing Park, but was rejected as the town was founded only slightly earlier by city rail as "Tahmoor", a local aboriginal term meaning "Bronzed Wing Pidgeon", a bird of common sight in the area.

Tahmoor Rural Fire Brigade The present day location of Tahmoor Rural Fire Brigade is opposite its original location on Thirlmere Way, near the Railway Hump. The station used to be an old hay shed, which was donated to the brigade. Brigade donations were used to upgrade the facility to accommodate the brigades needs. Tahmoor Taipans Soccer Club The official soccer team of Tahmoor are the Tahmoor Taipans which compete in the Macarthur District Soccer Football Association League. [3] The team's home ground is Tahmoor Oval.
