Poowong is a small dairying town located in South Gippsland, Victoria. At the 2006 census, Poowong had a population of 587. It is located 111 kilometres (69 mi) from Melbourne and about eight kilometers north-west of Korumburra in Australia.[2] The Post Office opened around January 1878.[3] For a town of its size, Poowong is quite well off with regard to its facilities. Facilities include four tennis courts, two netball courts, an indoor basketball stadium, a primary school, large community hall, heated swimming pool, a number of churches and an Aussie Rules football oval. The town has an Australian Rules football team competing in the Ellinbank & District Football League.[4]
