There are four fishermen who have the surname Simmons they are Edward, Eli, John and Samuel. Green’s Harbour was a small place with only 210 people living there in 1881. The events of Green’s Harbour are as follows. 1866 - Great Eastern (cable ship) entered the harbour 1869 - First school erected (Methodist school) 1874 - First marriage recorded 1875 - First teacher appointed 1884 - First official Methodist church built 1890 - First post office opened in Green's Harbour, postmaster was Hezekiah Burt 1907 - 18 deaths recorded in Green's Harbour 1914 - First train passed 1916 - Ambrose Penney sported Green's Harbour's first automobile 1930 - The settlement became lighted and connected by phone for the first time.
