It is administratively a commune, the lowest level of administrative area, lying within the Seine-et-Marne département in Île-de-France. It is best known as the birthplace and home of Louis Braille. As of 2005[update], François Bentzis Coupvray's mayor. Braille's home is now a museum and visitor attraction. The Castle of Rohan, built over the period 1596–1602 by Hercule de Rohan, Duke of Montbazon, is another visitor attraction, although it is now mostly in ruins. Disneyland Resort Paris is also nearby.
