History
As "Wenilsheim" it was documented for the first time in 766 in the Lorsch Codex. Though celtic vestiges indicate a considerably anterior cultural history. In the Middle Ages Wendelsheim was intermittently reigned by the lords of Calw and a nobility called "Wildgrafen" (Deerlords). During the German Mediatisation the enire district was assigned to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. After the Second World War Wendelsheim was finally reassigned to the newly created federal state rhineland palatinate
