It is situated 8 km southeast of Neubrandenburg. Burg Stargard is a small town in Mecklenburg Strelitz. In the town there are many clubs for example VFL Burg Stargard or SV Burg Stargard 09 and very famous places. The famous places: Germany’s most northern castle on a mountain, the local museum in the castle, the historic city centre with the footpath over the seven mountains, the Marie Hager exhibition, the famous painter of Burg Stargard, the animal park.

Big Anniversary weekend There was a big 750 year Party from 3 to 5 July 2009 on the sports ground. Burg Stargard has become 750 years old since the city got its name and the town charter in 1259. Planned activities were sport and recreation fun, festival processions, live acts, disco, oldtimer meeting and much more. The parade began on 4 July 2009 in the morning in the Papiermühlenweg, went over the Marketplace, Bachstraße, Sabeler Weg, Gartenstraße, Sportsground (fairground), Teschendorfer Chaussee, Mühlenstraße and Marketplace again. The parade showed a lot of scenes from the history of the town like times of knights in the middle ages to the modern times. In the evening visitors could have fun at a rock concert with the band City and great fireworks after then.
Famous people
Marie Hager Marie Hager was a painter and lived in Burg Stargard. She was born on 20th March 1872. She had exhibitions in Munich, Hamburg and Paris . Marie Hager’s house is in Burg Stargard. There are a lot of pictures from her. She died in Burg Stargard on 1947 and was buried on Burg Stargard Cemetery. Carl Friedrich Stolte Carl Friedrich Stolte was born in Neustrelitz on 27th December 1824. In 1844 he became a teacher in Burg Stargard He studied in Mirow and worked after the ideas of Pestalozzi. He initiated a sports arena for the physical education at Burg Stargard School. He wrote textbooks for German and Geography lessons. He died on the 19th April 1897. A street is called after him today. Johanna Beckmann Johanna Beckmann was born in Brüssow on 3rd May 1868. She was a China painter and silhouette artist. Her childhood Johanna spent in Burg Stargard. In April 1886 she began to work in Berlin, at the Royal arts and crafts museum and the royal art school. Then she worked as a designer at the Royal China Manufacture. Later she concentrated on developing her Silhouette art for illustrating magazines and books. 1913 she got the Rome scholarship. Johanna Beckmann died on 8 February 1941 in Berlin. Her grave in Burg Stargard is still a memorial today.
History
In the early 13th century traders and craftsmen founded a settlement at the foot of a castle. In 1250 the tower of the castle was built. In 1259 Stargard received the town charter from Brandenburg. Heinrich II married a princess from Mecklenburg in 1292 and so Burg Stargard became a town in Mecklenburg. Burg Stargard was the headquarters of General Tilly in the 30-year-long war in 1631.
Sights and attractions
The toboggan run One of the most interesting sights in Burg Stargard is the toboggan run. It is a happy sledge ride for young and old! The toboggan run is 720m long and is full of action. You overcome a drop of 30m by the drive. The toboggan run has 8 curves, a jump and two bridges. A highlight is that sledging by night. There is music, a campfire and barbecue. The animal park Klüschenberg Also another sight in Burg Stargard is the animal park. In the animal park Klüschenberg there live about 500 animals in 72 different kinds. To these belong domestics wild animals and also different kinds of apes, birds and kangaroos. In the animal park you can also see a lot of native animals from A-Z. A visit in the animal Zoo is really lovely.

Burg Stargard has five sportclubs the Footballclub, handball, volleyball and athletics. In the clubs there practise about 400 sportsmen. The Castle
The highlight in Burg Stargard is the castle, wherefrom the city has also got its name. The castle is the most northern high castle of Germany and the oldest secular building of Mecklenburg Vorpommern. From the castle tower the visitor has got a wonderful and spectacular view on the countryside and castle rewards. There are also special events on the castle, like that big knight-tournament during the castle party in summer. A visit to the castle is really worth for adults and children. The parts of the castle The castle consist of a pre- and maincastle. 1. The Tower: Today you have got a wonderful view from there and it is a part of the castle museum.
