Geography
Troisdorf is located approx. 22 kilometers south of Cologne and 13 kilometers north east of Bonn.
History
In 1952, Troisdorf became a free city, and in 1969 the urban area expanded with the annexation of the township of Sieglar, and the villages Altenrath and Friedrich-Wilhelms-Hütte (total population 1969: about 51,000). The first large settlement in this area goes back to the 9th (Eschmar and Sieglar 832) and 10th (Bergheim 987) century, and the first churches in this area being built around 700 AD in Bergheim (St. Lambertus). About 9600 foreign nationals live in Troisdorf. The two most numerous foreign national population groups are Turks (3100) and Greeks (1600). On 4 June 1972, Troisdorf founded the first advisory council for its foreign citizens in Germany.
