History
In the market square stands a statue of Father John Murphy, the insurgent leader, who was captured near Tullow and executed in the Market Square on 2 July 1798. The town has a small museum with much information about this period and other local history.

Tullow has a strong recent history in many sports most notably Soccer and Rugby where Parkville Utd and Tullow Rugby club have had many successes, Tullow went on a great run to make it to the Towns Cup final in 2008 where they were unlucky to finish runners up to Navan. While Parkville Utd have won many Carlow League and Cup titles at all ages from under 9's right through to Junior. St. Patricks football currently play football at Senior level but are finding it hard to match the success of earlier years.
