Zollikofen is a municipality in the district of Bern in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is a suburb of the capital of Bern. It is home to the Swiss College of Agriculture (SHL) and the Bern Switzerland Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Geography

Zollikofen has an area of 5.4 km² (2.1 sq mi). Of this area, 46.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 12.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 39.7% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.3%) is non-productive (rivers or glaciers).[1]

The Bern Switzerland Temple (formerly the Swiss Temple) a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called the LDS Church). Though the building is located in Münchenbuchsee, its postal address is assigned to Zollikofen. It was the first LDS temple to be built in Europe and the first to be built outside of the United States and Canada. The temple was dedicated the temple on September 11, 1955. In 1992 it was rededicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley. The temple grounds are open to visitors, but only members of the Church in good standing may enter the temple.
