There were 65 households out of which 20.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% were non-families. 32.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.82. In the town the population was spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 27.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 81.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.6 males. The median income for a household in the town was $35,625, and the median income for a family was $44,583. Males had a median income of $29,583 versus $30,833 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,876. There were 7.7% of families and 15.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 35.9% of under eighteens and 14.3% of those over 64.

Geography
Pine Apple is located at 31°52′4″N 86°59′15″W / 31.86778°N 86.9875°W / 31.86778; -86.9875 (31.867882, -86.987624)[2]. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²), all of it land.
History
On December 24, 1904, a white slaveowner's teenage son, Pig Melton, was shot and wounded in Pine Apple. Douglas A. Blackmon, Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II, Anchor Books 2009, pp. 256 et seq. Arthur Stuart, a black man who happened to be nearby, but who was innocent, was apprehended. Id. Although he knew his nephew would survive, the teenage Melton's uncle, Evander, with the complicity of the town constable, broke into the local jail where Stuart was being held, beat Stuart senseless, and burned him alive. Id. The fire spread from Stuart's body to the jail itself, and thence to the whole town, including the area bank and church, as well as the stacks of recently harvested cotton. Id. Neither the United States nor Alabama ever prosecuted anyone for Stuart's murder, or for the McRees' enslavement even post-emancipation of hundreds of black Americans. Id.
