Indialantic is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,944 at the 2000 census. As of 2005, the population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau is 3,076 [3]. It is part of the Palm Bay–Melbourne–Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The official name is "Indialantic-By-The-Sea."[3] The seldom-used term applies only to the incorporated town itself. The name is a portmanteau derived from the town's location between the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. "Indialantic" also refers to the zip code, 32903, to which mail is delivered from the post office in the town.

Geography

Indialantic is situated on the barrier island that separates the Indian River Lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean. This island, approximately 35 miles (56 km) in length, stretches south from Cape Canaveral to the Sebastian Inlet (see the Sebastian Inlet State Park). The Melbourne Causeway connects Indialantic to Melbourne, Florida across the Indian River Lagoon. Indialantic is bordered on the south by the town of Melbourne Beach and on the north by unincorporated Brevard County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (16.13%) is water.
