The racial makeup of the city was 69.4% (White Non-Hispanic) 19.6% (African American), 8.8% (Hispanic), 3.2% (Other), 1.4% (Two or more races), .5% (American Indian). Total can be more than 100% because Hispanics could be counted in other races. There were 4,478 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 3.00. In the city the population was spread out with 18.9% under the age of 18, 13.6% from 18 to 24, 41.2% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 147.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 157.8 males. The median income for a household in the city was $45,313, and the median income for a family was $54,709. Males had a median income of $41,715 versus $27,667 for females. Crest Hill is located at 41°33′52″N 88°6′31″W / 41.56444°N 88.10861°W / 41.56444; -88.10861 (41.564526, -88.108489).[1] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.3 square miles (18.8 km²), of which, 7.2 square miles (18.5 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (1.51%) is water.
