The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.22% White, 0.40% African American, 0.16% Native American, 1.30% Asian, 0.56% from other races, and 0.36% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.10% of the population. There were 1,735 households out of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.30. In the CDP the population was spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.0 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $66,917, and the median income for a family was $75,135. Males had a median income of $54,531 versus $34,483 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $24,768. About 3.9% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.6% of those under age 18 and 11.3% of those age 65 or over.

Geography
West Sayville is located at 40°43′54″N 73°6′18″W / 40.73167°N 73.105°W / 40.73167; -73.105 (40.731594, -73.105116)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.8 km²), of which, 1.9 square miles (4.8 km²) of it is land and 0.54% is water. The community is located next to the Great South Bay.
