The racial makeup of the town was 88.03% White, 10.00% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. There were 1,696 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.85. In the town the population was spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males. Walkertown is a town in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Piedmont Triad. The population was 4,009 at the 2000 census. It is named after an early resident.

Geography

Walkertown is located at 36°9′33″N 80°10′4″W / 36.15917°N 80.16778°W / 36.15917; -80.16778 (36.159159, -80.167661)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15.2 km²), all of it land. Walkertown is located on State Highway 66 between US Route 158 and US Route 311.

History

Walkertown was named for Dr. Robert Walker who was living at the site by 1771.[4]
