Depoe Bay is a city in Lincoln County, Oregon, United States, located on U.S. Route 101 next to the Pacific Ocean. The population was 1,174 at the 2000 census, with an unofficial estimated population of 1,355 in 2007.[3] The bay of the same name is a six-acre (24,000 m²) harbor that the city promotes as the world's smallest.[4]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), all of it land.[6]

History

Depoe Bay was founded by Siletz Indian "Charley" Depot (whose name was later changed to "DePoe").[citation needed] His original tribal affiliation was Tututni.[citation needed] In 1975, the fishing trip sequence in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was filmed in Depoe Bay.[5]
