History
East Carbon City got its humble beginnings in the fall of 1942, when the United States Government through the Defense Plant Corporation awarded a contract to W. E Ryberg-Strong-Grant Corporation to develop this town at a planned cost of US$5 million. The town was first named Drager, after the Chief Engineer for the Defense Plant Corporation, W. L. Drager, who was raised in Utah but later moved to Washington D.C. On September 9, the new post office moved into its new building and during the ceremonies held that day, it was announced that the postal service would not allow the name of Drager to be used. It was their contention that the name Drager was too similar to the name of Draper and that it would create confusion and delays in the mail. The Post Office Department proposed that Dragerville, Dragerton, and Drager Town be submitted for consideration. The name of Dragerton (a derivative of Drager-town) was selected, and the area was known by that name until the town was incorporated in 1973 and its name officially changed to East Carbon City.
