The racial makeup of the town was 98.09% White, 0.21% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.21% Pacific Islander, 0.64% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. There were 156 households out of which 37.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.8% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.2% were non-families.19.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.52. Geography

Paragonah is located at 37°53′8″N 112°46′27″W / 37.88556°N 112.77417°W / 37.88556; -112.77417 (37.885509, -112.774125)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land.

History

Paragonah (pronounced /ˌpærəˈɡuːnə/ PARR-ə-GOO-nə) was settled by residents from the nearby town of Parowan in the early 1850s. Parowan residents found meadows next to Red Creek that provided ideal locations for farming. The settlement was first known as Red Creek, but the name was later changed to Paragoonah and then Paragonah. There are conflicting sources as to the name's precise meaning, but it is of Paiute Indian origin and apparently is a reference to the water found in the area. Paragonah was incorporated as a town in 1916.
